Khyati, Mom of 2 – bought KATTOOS for her children as ‘open ended material’. The children are already used to and enjoy constructing with open ended material and have wooden blocks, magformers, lego and clay. They both go to BT Somani where such construction is encoraged. Khyati found KATTOOS on Amazon. Khyati says that the children have really loved them. Especially since they can be glued together with glue and can also be reused.

Pavithra bought KATTOOS for her 4.5 year old daughter. Both Pavithra and her husband are engineers and they both love the proportions and exact fit of the bricks. They find them sturdy and reusable and that they stand well. The box the bricks come in is reusable too and they love that there is no wastage.

The only issue they found was a bit of chipping at edges and some mud coming off on the hands. But they understand that this an accepted part of natural clay products.

Pavithra finds that her daughter loves KATTOOS, even though she has plastic and wooden blocks. Pavithra herself likes these clay bricks because they are low to maintain as they do not rot or get fungus like other natural products.

Kiran is a computer engineer who loves building things. Here is his review of KATTOOS. Warts and all.

“I like to build things, so I was searching for something like this. I googled it and found it on Instamojo. I bought the animal pack because I wanted a variety of brick shapes and the animal pack had more. And it also had a manual so I felt I could have some guidance.

When the bricks came, I made the couple of things but my 3 year old liked it so much that she started playing with it. So I thought it’s ok, I can get more let her play with it. She does role play with it – carrying it in her truck.

I did want to buy more but I think it is expensive. Per brick cost should be 2 or 3 rupees but I understand that it is for a social cause so I don’t mind paying but others may find it difficult to pay so much.

I like that it is made of clay because it resonates with Indian culture instead of plastic (like Lego). I think that there needs to be more social media and YouTube tutorials and all about this so people get to know about it.

I found the packaging good and the bricks are also sturdy. Couple of them broke when my daughter threw it but that is natural.”

Kiran’s wife, also a computer engineer, wants to build something with it. She does not usually build things but when she saw the bricks she felt like doing it!

Kavea is an entrepreneur runs a toy company. She comes from a family that loves blocks and so was constantly on the lookout for them. Kavea and her family have decided not to make any buys that are plastic and to only opt for home-based brands.

She found KATTOOS on Instagram and ordered the gift box with the intention of going linear, but her daughters (4 year old twins) just started building and playing with the bricks. They loved KATTOOS and still play with the bricks. One hiccup is that her son tends to pop the bricks into his mouth, so they have to be a little watchful. But, Kavea says, it is not too stressful to do so! 🙂

The one problem that stuck in her memory was that the box she bought was low on one particular shape and that really bothered her. She thought that maybe we had run short of that shape and filled the box with some other shape! 🙂 The other problem is that the blocks break but Kavea understands that it is a function of the material KATTOOS is made of.

Kavea recommended the blocks to a couple of other moms as well and would be glad to continue doing so.
