The last caravan!

I knew it was going to be a sad one, especially after six months of being there. Those kids were the reason I dragged myself out of bed every Saturday morning.
It was going to be a memorable caravan. The children greeted me with hugs and flowers and kisses.
The theater performance was amazing. In my entire six months I have never seeing the children so involved was beautiful. It was all in all one of the bet caravans ever. Though it ended all teary, it was a journey I’ll never forget.

Dance and friendship bands!

When we reached we were all awestruck considering the children as always outnumbered the volunteers. We weren’t prepared to handle the crowd. Well that’s what we thought atleast. It wasn’t raining so the turn out was pretty amazing.
The kids came running into our stall (dance) because like all of us their stereos buster seemed to be screaming into a mike and dancing like no one is watching. They danced only if I did, which though a tiny bit selfish made me feel very special. I also managed to get more of them to dance by telling them they’d get to teach me. Who knew interaction was such a boon?
For letting loose with them I was rewarded with friendship bands which made me feel so very special. The connection we feel with them is crazy. Hope all weeks are as great.

Dancing in the rain!!

It was a rainy day but it refused to dampen the spirits of any of the kids. They came in by the dozens but much lesser than before. Since the number was lesser we combined groups. They began to do the newspaper dance. In some rather hilarious positions, ranging from jumping on each other to carrying their partner. It was quite the spectacle. They then played a highly competitive game of Anthakshari. The songs ranged anywhere from a Hindi one to Why this kolaveri di..

Though the rain continued we sang and danced together. Passing the parcel resulted in some spectacular feats.

Nothing can compare to the fun we had today. Even though the weather fought against us every step of the way.

In just one day at the Caravan….

It was just another Saturday. But turned exciting when a 150 little faces popped up screaming ‘Akka, hiiiiii.’ First days are stereotypically awkward. But with these little bundle of joys it was way better than expected.

The weather was perfect and our hopes were high. We started with the registration. Where one child was more excited than the other. Soon came the time for activities. It started out with enough enthusiasm and energy on both sides, soon it was tilting towards the children. But they did NOT let our energy die down.

They were ready to make friends with all of us. They opened up and told us who their best friends were and how they go everywhere with their siblings. With them it almost seemed normal to hit their younger siblings. Though stopping them was our duty.

I learnt so much from them. With them it doesn’t matter who does what, or is from anywhere. It’s easy and simple. One honestly begins to smile in their company. And not worry about small things. They made us feel like a part of them.
